Jeffrey Jones-Ragona,
tenor and occasional harpsichordist, has performed with TEMP for several seasons
and collaborated with Danny Johnson on a number of other performances and the
recording, "Northern Lights." In 2005, he and Maestro Johnson collaborated to
stage the first Austin-area performance of the complete Monteverdi 1610
Vespers, combining the vocal forces of TEMP and the St. Mary Cathedral Schola
Cantorum and the instrumental forces of TEMP with The Whole Noyse, a Renaissance
wind-band based in San Francisco. This performance was recognized by the
Austin Critic's Table as the Outstanding Choral Concert of 2005-06.Jeffrey also serves as the Artistic Director of the Capital City Men's Chorus (Austin, TX), the Director of Music at the Cathedral of Saint Mary (Austin), and as Conductor of the Makheilah at Temple Beth Israel (Austin). He has taught on the music faculties of Drake University, St. Edward's University, and Southwestern University. Jeffrey received his DMA in Conducting from the University of Texas 2006. He is the 2003 recipient of the Austin Circle of Theatre's B. Iden Payne Award for Outstanding Musical Direction of Gilbert and Sullivan comic opera "The Pirates of Penzance." In late 2007, A-R Editions will publish Jeffrey's edition of Niccolò Jommelli's "Requiem in E_flat Major" (1756), and it will be the first scholarly edition published of this once-famous masterpiece. |
