Jos Milton has established himself as a busy artist, both in concert and on the operatic stage. He returns to his native Texas from Northern California, where he made numerous appearances as tenor soloist in the San Francisco Bay Area, appearing often in opera and oratorio. His opera roles include Gernando in Haydn’s rarely performed L’isola disabitata with City Concert Opera Orchestra, Pedrillo in Abduction from the Seraglio with Sonoma City Opera, Rodolfo in La Bohème with Livermore Valley Opera, and Ferrando in Così fan tutte with San Francisco’s Pocket Opera. His performances in oratorio include works of Monteverdi, Charpentier, and J.S. Bach. Jos has delighted audiences and critics alike, and been praised by the San Francisco Classical Voice for his warm tone color, sincere delivery, vocal agility and “a lovely lyric voice.” Regarding his performances in 2008, Classical Sonoma said, “Jos Milton shone, with gleaming high notes, through the text which Bach imposed upon the music.” Prior to his work in California, Jos was a resident artist with Bach Vespers at Holy Trinity in New York City, where he performed solo movements in more than fifty Bach cantatas. He is a graduate of the Peabody Conservatory of Music, where he received a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in voice. He grew up in Houston and currently resides in Austin with his wife and son. He has recently joined the faculty at the Armstrong Community Music School of the Austin Lyric Opera, where he teaches private voice and seminars on opera. |
